Rain or Shine, the parade was not going to be cancelled.
The Color and Honor Guard joined units from around the state and nation
to honor the local resident, who served his country during WW2.
Sergeant Basilone received the Congressional Medal of
Honor for his gallant action during the Battle of Guadalcanal in 1942
and the Navy Cross posthumously for heroism in the Battle of Iwo Jima
where he was killed in action in 1945. Click
